Standard Club

Organisation planning for a leading insurance company

Founded in 1884, Standard Club (SC) is one of the world’s leading shipping mutual Protection and Indemnity insurers by tonnage and membership. The leadership team were managing a decoupling from SC’s parent company, while focusing on ensuring a diverse, innovative and agile culture that would ensure it could continue to provide an excellent service to its members and attract and retain talent in the future.

We conducted a Fitness to Scale review to support organisation planning and spoke to members of the leadership team and a cross section of its broader team from 11 global locations. Areas for improvement identified included clarifying the vision, redesigning key lateral processes, developing a diversity strategy and improving performance and reward systems.

Standard Club adopted all of Scalewell’s organisation recommendations and has since successfully decoupled.

Scalewell’s Fitness to Scale framework and deep engagement with our leadership team and all departments produced valuable insights that allowed us to prioritise our development - over twenty opportunities Scalewell identified were immediately acted on, producing performance and culture benefits that have had a lasting impact as we evolve our organisation.
